2010 Fundraiser to support ball hockey players and the community
The 4th annual Kevin Lord Memorial BBHL Fundraiser, will be held this year, on Saturday, May 8 at the Beeton Arena. Proceeds raised from this event will go towards the BBHL Minor Ball Hockey League Travel Fund, to support minor players travel expenses to national and international tournaments. Kevin Lord began his ball hockey career with the BBHL, competing in Provincial and Canadian Championships, before eventually being selected to play for Junior Team Canada at the 2004 World Junior Ball Hockey Championships in Slovakia. He was also selected team captain of the 2006 team, but passed away just before, after a year long battle with brain cancer. This summer, there are ten players chosen from the BBHL, who will be competing in the World Championships in Austria and the Czech Republic.
In past years, a portion of the proceeds have been donated to the
Simcoe-Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, in memory of Kevin Lord.
This year, a newly created fund has been established, entitled “The Kevin Lord Memorial Community Benefit Fund”. A portion of this years proceeds will be allocated to this fund in support of various local community efforts. “We are very proud to set up this new fund in memory of Kevin to support the community as well as the minor ball hockey players, now and hopefully in the future”, said event chair, Al Lord.
Tickets for the event are $20, which includes a buffet meal, a full night of live entertainment and a silent auction. This year’s entertainment will be local upcoming singing sensation “Nicole Scott” along with the very exciting and talented rock band, “Diamond And The Ruff”.
Tickets are available at the Muddy Water Tavern in Beeton and the Hornet's Nest Bar & Grill in Alliston at the New Tecumseth Recreation Complex. This is a licenced event and a wristband policy will be in effect. Minors will be permitted to attend
until 9 p.m.
