JUNIOR NATIONALS - DAY 4 (FINALS)

2017-07-31

Gold and Bronze Medal games......

In the U15 division our Xtreme team were facing TeamBC in the Bronze Medal game and fell behind early and kept battling back but BC stayed a step ahead as they defeated our boys 4-3. Our thanks to Jamie Rocci and coaching staff of Doug Weatherall and Angelo Micone for all the hard work during the last year in preparing the team for this event, as well we'd like to thanks Jamie for managing all uniform needs and hotel requirments for all our teams for this very special weekend.

In the U17 division our boys faced the undefeated Edmonton Xtreme in the Gold Medal game and they certainly came out to play controling the first 10 minutes of the game. The game remained scoreless well into the 2nd period before Edmonton finally broke through and then went on to add some insurance as they won 3-0. Our boys were relentless though and battled right until the end but could not solve the Edmonton goalie who gave up only 1 goal the entire tournament. These young men should be very proud of themselves for this tremendous accomplishment. Our thanks to Sean Moore and his coaching staff of Dave Kelly and Dave Smilsky who guided these young men to the Gold Medal game.

In the U19 division our boys were 4-0-0 in the preliminary round and faced the Newfoundland Selects in the Bronze Medal game who were also undefeated in the preliminary round with a record of 3-0-1. The Xtreme continued with stingy team defense which was by far the best in the tournament as they finished the event with a 3-1 victory and the Bronze Medal. The team gave up only 6 goals in 6 tournament games. Congrats to head coach Clay Birkett and staff of Brent Sallows, Doug Livingston, Ted Blowes and Brad Johnson. Many of these young men have now wrapped up their minor ball hockey careers with National Gold Medals as U17's from 2015 (in St. John's NFLD) and with Bronze this year in Kitchener in the U19 division.
