Junior Team Canada U20 prepare with proud supporters in the background

The 2016 ISBHF World Junior Ball Hockey Championships were held July 6th to 12th in Sheffield, UK where the best junior ball hockey teams from across the world gathered to compete for gold.

The Canadian Ball Hockey Association (CBHA) – Canada’s sanctioned, recognized governing body of the sport of ball hockey - could not be prouder of the sixty-six young men that made up Junior Team Canada as they return from the 2016 ISBHF World Junior Ball Hockey Championships this week. They bring with them two gold medals together with the honor of World Championship titles for U16 and U18, and silver medals for the U20 team.

Under 16 Junior Team Canada vs. Slovakia | Gold Medal Game:
The first match of the final day showcased everything that you would hope to see in a gold medal game and featured world class play in the U16 category. The Slovak national team was aware of their loss to Team Canada in the round robin group, and it was apparent that they changed their strategy from the opening whistle playing solid, team based defense throughout the entire game and countering with dangerous attacks. The final game was decided after Canadian forward Brent Broaders took advantage of a turnover near the Slovak net. Brenton was named best player for team Canada in the gold medal game of the U16 ISBHF World Junior Championships.

Under 18 Junior Team Canada vs. Slovakia | Gold Medal Game:
An unbelievably dramatic game ensued on Gold Medal day for the two U18 contenders. The U18 Slovak national team scored the first goal in the first and took the lead in the game. This was unchanged till the 40th minute of the game when the Canadian team managed to tie the game from the 2 power plays. After 3 minutes of overtime, Junior Team Canada forward, Daniel Lowe scored the winning goal and the second victory for the Canadian national team at the ISBHF World Junior Championships. Goalie Chris Curr followed up his 43 save shutout against the Czech Republic the previous day with a 36 save performance in the Gold Medal game, and deserves a special call-out!
